back at it!

ok... so i'm a bad blogger, lol...

fell off the wagon so to speak, seemed it was going no-where fast and i just lost interest for awhile. I'd like to give it another shot though... :o)

So here I am, working feverishly, watching our new little business grow! Rather exciting it is... orders are coming in, keeping us pretty busy. Our fall line will be coming out soon, sketches are drawn, fabric is in... machine is a whirring! And Heather's at me to go,go,go!

Well, there's a busy day ahead tommorrow, as i wrap up the loose ends on a wedding order... so off to bed i go..

Monday, May 24th

Today I finished adding the petti-coat and lining to the skirt of the dress and got it all ready to add to the bodice. This dress now has 20 yds of tulle! (the most I have EVER used on any dress!) I'm sure what ever little girl becomes owner of this dress will feel like a real princess!

I also took a little bit of a break to go shopping with a dear friend of mine... We just HAD to go check out the local fabric stores, you know! Just to see what was new. I also went to look for the silk ribbon to do the ribbon embroidery on the bodice of this dress. Which, apparently I will have to order online, because it seems that nobody locally carries silk ribbon anymore! I suppose ribbon embroidery is a dying art! How sad, it is so pretty!

Until next time!

Wednesday, May 19th

Well now has today not been a DAY!!!

I have not accomplished much more than getting out of bed it seems...
I woke with the intentions of mowing my yard quickly and getting as much accomplished on my new dress as possible before whisking away to help my best-friend finish painting her bedroom!

However, I encountered problems...

My lawnmower is on a fritz and is waiting for me to take it to get fixed, however my knee-high yard was not going to wait, so I thought why not borrow one... I have plenty of friends...
So I found that I must have a lot of lazy friends because they all have riding lawnmowers, which will not (no matter how hard i try) fit into the trunk of my car!

I did find one 15 miles away, drove all the way there, brought it back...
and it WOULDN'T START!!!

I finally did track down a working mower and got my yard finished around 4:00 pm... YAY! I feel so much better, having it done!

I will just have to work on my dress this evening... and poor 'lil Heather's room... it just had to wait :(

Tuesday, May 18th

Today I had little time to work on the dress, I had to work my side job to get a little income... I clean houses on the side right now, and baby sit too... But I did get some things done anyway.. I got the skirt completely removed from the dress and the petticoat is now over half done...

It is getting to the point where it's been over a month since our last sale, and I am getting rather discouraged :( It seems that things are going no-where and fast!

Heather (my business partner) and I have decided to go ahead and vamp up our photos a bit.

We would like to go ahead and to photos of the dresses on models. We had decided initially not to do this bc we wanted to focus on One-Of-A-Kind creations and was afraid this would hinder our sales... but we have had many comments leaning the other way... hopefully the change will help us get some orders or buys...

I do the photography myself, and am a little nervous about taking this on, but I'm sure it will turn out just fine... and even be more fun!

A New Day

Here we are, it's a Monday (AGGHHH)... the hardest day of the week to get started on! At least it is for me... hard to leave the weekend behind!

I am spending the morning working on our new creation, she is not named yet... I like to wait until my designz are finished before naming them, then I sit and stare at it and envision the little girl that would be wearing it and her name... that's how I come up with the names to my designz!

Anyway, the design I am working on now is made of Silk Dupioni (my favorite material) and was inspired by a picture of one of Christian Diors designs in the 1950's... It will have a very full tulle skirt with an overlay of the silk dupioni that is whisked back and tied loosely in the back, which will hold a bouquet of hand-made 100% silk flowers... oh, this is an exciting dress to me!

I had the dress all together, thinking I could start adding details, and found the skirt is not yet full enough to hold the weight of the overlay, so now i'm having to take the whole skirt off, and add more layers! oh fun, fun! I hate having to undo things!

Also being worked on are two silk dupioni fall jackets by special order! We do specialized custom designz for people too, I LOVE doing one-of-a-kind work.. it never gets stale and I'm always learning something new!

I will be adding b/w photos of the designz in progress and upon completion will be adding full color photos to show the finished design!

The Beginning

So here I am embarking on a sometimes scary but wonderful new adventure in my life!

My best friend and I have started our own online website creating one-of-a-kind children's clothing. I am the seamstress and she is the one with all the wit and brains for book-keeping and file-keeping and all those things SHE calls fun!

Currently, we have opened shop on Etsy, a website designed for selling handmade or vintage items.. It is really neat and has been fun so far. We have only made one sale in two months, but it was a rather encouraging sale...

We sold a really fun sundress (size 18-24 mo) with a matching capelette to a woman in NYC! She left us wonderful feedback stating that she was very impressed with the workmanship and that we should have our own boutique in SOHO! Yes, we jumped up and down about this for a couple of days!

We are still anxiously awaiting our next sale, but in the meantime have a couple of dresses in progress! I'll be back with photos and updates on what is in store for sure!
